Summary

Kezia Cooper Hobson, recently widowed, arrives in New York from San Francisco。  Determined to make a fresh start, she has just completed the sale of her Pacific Heights home, not to mention her husband’s venture capital firm, and in doing so, is also freed from her responsibility as a board member of the company。 Bringing with her only a few personal treasures, she is excited to move into the blank slate of a beautiful midtown penthouse, in the city that she has always loved。 It is also where her two adult daughters now live。

As Kezia settles into her new apartment, she meets her movie-star next-door neighbor, Sam Stewart, whose terrace borders hers。 Just a couple of weeks after she arrives, however, a devastating crisis strikes New York City。 Kezia and Sam find themselves connecting over their strong impulse to help those in need。 As they share a life-changing experience of volunteering, a bond is sparked and a friendship is formed。

Kezia’s daughters, Kate and Felicity, are taken aback by their mother’s new friendship, both more focused on their own love lives than hers。 But Kezia is learning that the changes she’s making are just what she needs to open new horizons。

In this powerful and moving new novel, Danielle Steel illuminates the importance of human connection and embracing brave change, proving it’s never too late for a brand-new start。

MehThe book was somewhat maudlin with the attacks by American terrorists on buildings in NYC。 I found it to be both sad and depressing。 The main characters helped for one night; but spent the remainder of the book traveling and living their high lifestyles。 Not my favorite DS book, for sure。

Refreshing and Inspiring I enjoy reading all of Danielle Steel’s books。 However, this is one of the best that I’ve seen her right。 The story had depth, although predictable in some areas, was uplifting to read。 I continue to look forward to her books。 I generally preorder all of them。

This was such a good book that I couldn’t put it down and finished in one day。 Danielle Steel never disappoints!

Different from most of her books。 Hard to read in places。 The characters were very good and their stories interesting。

Terry

I liked this one, but I’ve noticed that Danielle Steel’s books are getting much shorter and a little too contrite。 Everything wrapped up so quickly without much depth or plot development。 However, it’s always good for a quick fantasy or escape。

I enjoyed reading this book and believe it or not, this was the first book by Danielle Steel I have ever read。 I thought this book was excellently paced and never for a moment took its eyes off the main point of the story。How should we approach our life when we are thrown a curve ball, a seriously bad turn of events? A death of a loved one。 A citywide or even nationwide catastrophe。 A breakup in a relationship you thought was “the one”。 Every one of us has faced our own version of that point in I enjoyed reading this book and believe it or not, this was the first book by Danielle Steel I have ever read。 I thought this book was excellently paced and never for a moment took its eyes off the main point of the story。How should we approach our life when we are thrown a curve ball, a seriously bad turn of events? A death of a loved one。 A citywide or even nationwide catastrophe。 A breakup in a relationship you thought was “the one”。 Every one of us has faced our own version of that point in our lives, but how should we approach it? That is precisely what the author seeks to address in this novel。 Everyone in this story is at that turning point in their lives。 First we meet Kezia whose husband died suddenly five years earlier—a statistic of the COVID pandemic。 Then we meet Sam whose beloved wife died suddenly two years ago in a plane crash。 Kezia’s eldest daughter, Kate, has spent four years with a man whom she believed was going to be her husband。 He had no interest in marriage—ever。 Sam’s son John was dating a woman who had serious plans to marry him。 John wasn’t interested。 Then here was the city of New York itself who had to face a second terrorist attack and the death of thousands of citizens。So what happens to life when tragedy strikes? You grieve, but push on and try to live life to the fullest。 That is what the characters in this book tried to do。 It wasn’t always easy。 But progress, love, and life were in front of them。 How they got there was the key and it made this book special。I loved the chance to read this book and highly recommend it。 My only regret is that it took so long to finally read a Danielle Steel novel! 。。。more

Another entertaining and marvellous story from Steel。 Strong characters and an interesting plot。 I liked this one so much。 The exploration of the relationships between the mom and her two daughters was something I particularly appreciated。 Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC。

Kylie

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy。 This was a pretty typical DS book。 Tragic event, everyone falls in love, lots of repeating itself。
